Truth be told, I've never had much patience for still lives. I'm much better at finding moments than creating them.

I spent several weeks convalescing in Thailand during the winter of 2018. To my delight, on the island of Koh Samui, the most magnificent ray of sunshine cut through my beach hut each morning. It quickly became my challenge to make the most of this ribbon of sun.

All at once, my days took on a new schedule. I started buying fruit each day in anticipation of photographing the next morning. I was driven by the puzzle of piecing together scenes of fruit in a limited amount of time, before the earth would turn and the light would shift.
